Briskmail
A native Mac mail client for Gmail. Not a browser tab: a real app, with your inbox, reading pane and compose window rendered natively on your Mac.
What it does
- Reads your Gmail inbox and shows it in a native list and reading pane.
- Composes, replies and saves drafts, and sends only when you click Send.
- Notifies you of new mail on your Mac without keeping a browser tab open.
- Lets you create and manage Gmail filters from inside the app.
What Google data it uses, and why
Briskmail asks for three Google permissions, and uses each one only for what is listed here:
- Read, compose, send and organize email in Gmail (Google's
gmail.modifyscope). This is what lets Briskmail show your inbox, let you reply, and send mail. There is no separate permission for reading versus sending, because a mail client needs both to work as a mail client. - Receive new-mail notifications (Google's
pubsubscope). This lets the app hear about new mail instantly instead of checking on a timer. The notification carries only an account identifier and a change marker, never message content. - Manage Gmail filters (Google's
gmail.settings.basicscope). This lets you create, list and delete filters from the app's filter settings. Briskmail never changes a filter or any other Gmail setting unless you ask it to.
Your mail is fetched directly from Google to your Mac. We don't run a server that stores your inbox. Briskmail's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Full detail: Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
